Since 1987 Jules has been the principal conductor of the Philips Symphony Orchestra (PSO). Under his inspiring leadership this orchestra has developed unto an impressive ensemble, regularly performing at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. The repertoire of this massive orchestra includes the great late romantic symphonies of Bruckner and Mahler. The orchestra is also skilled in popular music and has worked with soloists such as Toots Tielemans, Johnny Logan, Alain Clark and Caro Emerald. The DVD that was produced to celebrate Jules’ 25th anniversary as principal conductor of the PSO, which includes a live broadcast of Mahler’s Second Symphony from the Concertgebouw, has received high critical acclaim and has been broadcasted several times on Dutch television.
This season he will celebrate his 30th jubilee as principal conductor of the orchestra with performances of the unique Symphony nr. 8 (Symphonie der Tausend) by Gustav Mahler.
